that's the good news for us. if you were enjoying the summer heat yesterday we have a cool down for your holiday weekend. we talked about the "rim" fire and how it's impacting parts of it. ahoe. there is a dense smoke advisory today. that means it's tough to see out there. the weather service will issue that advisory when you cannot see for a half mile. temperatures are not bad, but the smoke is making it difficult to see and breathe sometimes. 60 degrees in oakland, 58 in san francisco. these numbers are actually a tad cooler in most cases then where we started yesterday. livermore is one of the areas we're seeing where temperatures are a tad warmer than at the start of the day yesterday. for the afternoon 82 for richmond into oakland. 74 for the afternoon, 76 in hayward, a lot of festivals going on for the weekend. 80 degrees san jose, 80 degrees for palo alto and 80 degrees in belmont. it's going to be a nice day for you. the extended forecast here, the cooling day beginning lasting through your holiday weeken

from nasa they sent us this image. look at all the smoke coming from the fire tracking more northerly direction all that smoke sliding up into lake tahoe and that fire continues to burning and looks like it will continue until we really get things under control maybe with some winter rain. so with that in mind, looks like today we are seeing cooler air moving onshore and we are seeing some fog outside, some thick fog, and dense enough visibilities down to a quarter of a mile in the santa rosa area this morning. the temperatures are running in the 50s and also the 60s. it's a bit damp out toward the coastline too. we are looking at drizzle toward the beaches so be careful on the roadways, maybe a little slick and you have that thick fog outside. but by the afternoon a lot of sunshine coming our way, about 88 degrees in concord, 68 degrees and mostly sunny into san francisco and should be about 81 degrees in san jose. all right. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >>> thank you, lawrence. some of our traffic cameras ar

he often gives us traffic shots along 101 at this time of the morning if you tend to watch us and here he is again showing us live look near that exit. as you can see, northbound and southbound 101 moving at the limit if you are heading towards santa clara 101 traffic moving fine this morning. let's go to our maps and check some of the road sensors. westbound four looks good off the antioch bridge and continuing towards "a" street and look at that all green on the sensors all the way towards 242 and concord. westbound 580 coming through the altamont pass no big delays there either a few brake lights in the eastbound direction but commute looks good towards the dublin interchange. this is one of our slower drive times. it's because of that overnight roadwork still in lanes. it should all wrap up shortly after 5:00 or right around there. it's northbound this morning between 23rd and broadway and that's why that drive time 23 minutes or so between san leandro and the macarthur maze. if you are heading towards the dublin interchange, all those headlights as you can see starting to get crow

there's a lot of moisture all around us. we have had widespread flooding thunderstorms in arizona, southern california, the empire state building getting wet and also the las vegas basin but none of that heading in our direction. stays off to our east and we have a lot of moisture to our north, oregon, washington, rainfall staying to the north. in between we find the bay area under the influence of high pressure off to the east keeping the moisture away, and two, low pressure to our north which is giving us just a light onshore flow. that's why the weather has been so nice. it's been sunny in the afternoon but not hot because we are getting just enough of that cooling influence of the chilly pacific ocean. that's going to change toward the weekend. on the holiday weekend, onshore flow is stronger and temperatures drop five to 10 degrees coming up for the holiday weekend. we will be several degrees cooler than average starting saturday. but pleasant weather all throughout the week, cloudy in the morning but lots of afternoon
